| Member Allen Reports on part of his boating
life. From Buffalo to the Whitsunday Islands |
|
This is our youngest son, Paul, with our charter boat, Tempest, in the background. She is anchored in Nara Inlet, Hook Island. |
This is
our new Hunter 170 on the beach about 40 miles south of Buffalo, NY. The waters
are quite shallow, so we couldn't put the 5 foot centerboard down fully until
we were almost half a mile offshore. Even two miles offshore, the depths seemed
quite shallow given the brown color in many places. On this day, the sun had
been hidden away until just an hour before sunset and we caught several
pictures of the beautiful sunset. We sold our cruiser, a Catalina 25, since the family decided the two hour trip to our marina in Erie, PA, was too far to go each weekend. We keep Kelly II, the Hunter 170, on a "dry" mooring (its trailer) at Lake Arthur, Moraine State Park, north of Pittsburgh, PA. Since Kelly II is only 20 minutes away from home, we've been sailing more, but cruising less. We did get to cruise the Whitsunday Islands of Australia last year (Picture on left). It was part of our trip of a lifetime.
